What age should my child be?
Boys and girls ages 2-1/2 and up are welcome. Children not ready will be asked to try again at a later date.
What should my child wear?
A safety helmet is required. Mittens or gloves are essential. Clothing should be layered; termal underwear or tights work well. Avoid heavy snowsuits, which restrict movement. Please, no plastic kneepads.
What about skates?
Hockey and figure skates are appropriate. Skates should not bend over at the ankles enough to tip the blades to either side while standing or skating. Recommended skate size is shoe size or smaller.
Can parents skate?
Parents are not allowed on the ice with their children during classes. Our skating club offers adult classes on Tuesdays.
How will we know if classes are canceled?
If there is no school in the city or town where the rink is located due to inclement weather (or other), then classes are canceled and non-refundable. If the rink is closed on our Saturday an email will be sent out as soon as the club is notified.
How will the lessons be conducted?
A short stretching and warm-up period will be followed by the Ice Skating Institute’s Learn-to-Skate Program. Games and toys are used to make skating fun!
Will my child be allowed to push a crate?
Crates will be utilized until your child learns to fall and get up on his/her own (usually for the first two weeks only). If the child can stand on his/her skates, a crate is not necessary and, therefore, will not be used.
